.jpg) Overview
The Ferny Grove State High School Resource Centre aims to support our students in their learning. This involves providing the students with resources and instruction in their use. We also support the students with materials to develop their literacy and information skills.
The Resource Centre has an up to date collection of curriculum relevant and general interest resources. This includes print (books, maps, charts, magazines, and vertical file), audio-visual (video and DVD) and online (Internet and database) resources. Students may access all resources during opening hours.
The Library Staff continually offer instruction in the effective use of these resources. Year 8 Students experience a comprehensive Orientation Programme to ensure their familiarity with the resources and services of the Resource Centre. We have an extensive internal Resource Centre Intranet Page which details Resource, Database and ‘How to Guides’ for the students’ assignments.
A major focus of the school curriculum is literacy. The Resource Centre supports this through the English programme by offering reading programmes for students. In Year 8, the students participate in the RIB-IT reading scheme and the Year 9 and 10 students are offered general wide reading. The Year 11 and 12 students engage in in-depth biographical and literature studies. Teacher Librarians select current, appropriate and interesting books to support these programmes. The Resource Centre also provides general interest reading materials (fiction and non-fiction) for the students.
The Resource Centre is situated in and attractive environment. The interior is fully air-conditioned and has recently been renovated and painted. We are fortunate to have a bank of modern, well-maintained computers, a heavy-duty laser printer and a colour photocopier/printer. Students are advised to carry some change if they wish to photocopy.
