Welcome back to all the year 11 students at Ferny Grove. It is my 4th year as co-ordinator for you and as such I now not only recognise faces, but also know many of your names. More importantly I think there is a mutual respect and recognition of the journey we are all embarking on.
Year 11 is a momentous year being the start of senior School and the time when many of you will make choices that influence you future careers. Subject selection seems now to have a purpose. It is also a time when many of you will assume leadership positions. That has already taken place with individuals volunteering to be members of the Leadership Team, the Dance Committee and the Cruise Committee. We have also had individuals lead parade and others have either presented a performance number, or spoken of an area where Year 10 students have shown talent. There will be numerous areas where individuals can lead by introducing a topic, setting up a committee and making thing happen. It is up to your imagination.
This year we have fun as well as working hard. For those students who demonstrate a positive attitude and display exemplary behaviour i.e. receiving at least a C on their report for behaviour, industry and homework, then they are invited to attend a fun activity each term. We want people to be rewarded for their positive behaviour.
The vast majority of our students are a delight to work with, however Mr Livermore, the form teachers and I spend a large amount of time enforcing the school’s behaviour management plan. Students need first and foremost to be respectful to other people and their property. What then follows is a harmonious environment for everyone to both learn and enjoy.
I approach the next two years with a sense of anticipation and enthusiasm. We all want you to enjoy school and take advantage of all the opportunities that present themselves. To your parents I wish you health, happiness and a peaceful year.
