Health and Physical Education

Welcome to Health and Physical Education!

Vetruvius was an architect who lived in the late 1400s who wrote about the importance of ‘symmetry’. He noted that the proportions of the male body should be symmetrical – e.g., the distance from the forehead to the chin is 1/10 of the height, as is the distance from the wrist to the top of the middle finger, and that the navel was in the exact centre of the outstretched body.

Leonardo de Vinci drew this figure in his sketchbook in 1513, using the ‘rules’ of symmetry as observed by Vetruvius.

At Ferny Grove SHS, we have adopted the drawing as our logo in the belief that a good physical education (which includes activities and knowledge) is an important part of everyone’s education and lifestyle.
