Laptop Program

Ferny Grove State High School operates under a parental contribution laptop program. The parent contribution is required up-front in order to secure a device.

The importance of continuing student learning in a digital environment is paramount within our school.  As our students are of the digital generation, significant investment has been made to ensure that our teachers and students maintain a strong focus on embedding ICTs into the curriculum.

The school is asking that parents/caregivers lend their support to this valuable and innovative program. Strong support from parents is vital to the program’s success.

Laptop Participation Fees for 2018

1. The full cost of the laptop is to be paid before the laptop is issued to the student.

  • Payment of the first instalment amount is required before the laptop is ordered for the student.

  • Payment of the second instalment amount is required before the laptop is set up for the student. Laptops are then distributed to students at a time determined by the school.

2. In addition to the cost of the laptop, there is a $75 annual participation fee that
is to be paid each year.  This cost is for technical support and licensing fees.

NOTE: New laptops are purchased with either a three or four year warranty.  When the warranty period expires, the laptop can no longer be used as a school device and the purchase of a new device will be required.  This means that students who start at the school in grade 7 will purchase a laptop for grades 7-9 and then be required to purchase another laptop for use in grades 10-12.  Laptops with a four year warranty are only purchased for students who are starting at the school in grade 9.

All school laptops include:

  • Technician support on site during school hours
  • Protective case
  • Warranty & Accident damage protection
  • Computrace - Theft protection software
  • Mandatory Blue Coat Internet filtering while on and off school site
  • Cybersafety Button

Advantages of participating in a laptop program:

  • Teaching and learning is transformed with abundant access to technology

  • Exclusive use of a commercial grade, high-end laptop and software

  • Wireless connectivity across the school site, with access to network drives, internet, online classrooms and printing

  • Laptop is owned, maintained and supported by Ferny Grove SHS

  • Students have access to a school-operated Help Desk and Technicians

  • Laptops can be used at home and at school

  • Protected by Education Queensland anti-virus tools and automated updates

  • Warranty and accidental damage protection (ADP) included (excess may apply) - Vendor Technicians are sent to the school for repairs of all kinds. It is very uncommon that devices are required to be sent away for repair. This speeds repair of devices in most cases.

  • Fire/loss and theft insurance - at home and school (excess applies) - and protected by Computrace.

  • In the case of device failure or fault a hot swap loan is issued for the duration of the repair.

  • Additional software – the school has negotiated (and will continue to do so), licencing deals that allow installation of software on student devices at a fraction of the retail cost.

  • A protective case is supplied with the laptop and is built into the initial cost.
