Details for 2021 FGSHS Swimming Carnival
Date – Wednesday February 10 (WEEK 3)
Venue – Ferny Hills Pool, Ferny Way.
Start / Finish Time – Students are to enter the pool via the front entrance between 8:00am and 8:55am. Rolls will be marked inside the pool area. The 200m individual medley and 200m/100m freestyle events will begin at 8:30am. Swimmers planning on competing in these events should make arrangements to be prepared in a timely fashion.
The first 50m event will commence at 9:10am. The last event (open relay) is expected to finish by 2:40pm with presentations of winning teams presented immediately after. Students will be dismissed by 3:05pm. Bus students will be catered for although it is recommended they make alternative arrangements if possible. If your student needs to be dropped at Ferny Grove State High in the morning, teachers have been allocated to walk with this group to the pool and will be leaving from the bottom carpark gate at 8:45 am. It would be preferable for students to be dropped at the pool if that fits with your timetable.
Attire – Students can wear house colours or their sports uniform. Costumes (in house colours) are acceptable but will not be allowed in the pool. Body and face paint is not permitted in the pool. Hats, sunscreen and water are strongly encouraged and sun safety will be reinforced throughout the day. Speedos and swimming caps are NOT required to swim, but our more competitive athletes may choose to wear them.
Food - The pool canteen will be available to students, along with the pool also running a sausage sizzle. In saying this, lines can be long at times for food/drink and it is highly recommended that students bring their own food and water.
Cost – No Cost.
Important Points – Should your child not be in attendance it is important you notify the school to confirm their absence. Should your child need to be excused during the day, they will need an approved leave pass issued from the office prior to the carnival day. This can be arranged prior to the carnival and students present this to the staff member on duty at the front gate to exit. A designated member of the school leadership team will also have a phone so they can communicate with the office regarding students leaving the venue. No student will be permitted to leave without a leave pass or approved phone call to our leadership member – no exceptions.
No food from outside the venue is able to be delivered to the pool. Eskies or large coolers are not permitted at the venue, along with any type of shade structure. There will be ample food and drinks available from the venue and plenty of extra shade structures around.
Due to the current climate around Covid-19, there will be No parent/guardian spectators allowed at this event. This will also be the case for the district swimming carnival at Lawnton pool.
The carnival is designed to be both a fun day and a competitive environment. Selection for the North West District (NWD) carnival is based around the results at this carnival. The FGSHS team will be announced ASAP following the carnival. We want all students to "have a go" and encourage participation.
