Learning Support Services at Ferny Grove State High School provide in-class and tutorial support with a specific focus on literacy and numeracy for students who experience difficulties across the curriculum areas. Additionally, students are assisted with the organisation and planning of assessment tasks and homework.
Our learning support is delivered in a manner that is respectful and appropriate for secondary students. All students attend mainstream classes where teachers cater to their needs by employing differentiated strategies. Some students are supported in these classrooms by teacher aides or specialist teachers. In addition, support is provided before school in one-to-one and small group tutorials. Students with particular reading difficulties also receive individual tutoring to develop their reading accuracy and/or comprehension skills. At assessment time, a number of students are offered teacher aide support that is appropriate to their needs.
