Recommendations:

  1. Our recommended device is a Microsoft Windows 11 laptop as the operating system will provide maximum compatibility with school applications.
  2. Do not purchase Microsoft Office for BYOD as it is available FREE for EQ students.  Refer to BYOD Software Applications for details.
  3. Students who opt for an Apple Mac - depending on subject requirements - may still need to run Windows programs. Running Windows applications on a Mac will require extra software (for example Parallels or VMware Fusion)  which require additional purchase by parents.
  4. Purchase the maximum warranty available, and Accidental Damage Protection insurance if your budget allows.

The following are not suitable for BYOD

  • Windows 10 (as of 14/10/2025) or older
  • Chromebooks
  • Android Devices
  • Co-Pilot+PC and other ARM processors
  • Devices that do not support Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac, (5GHz)
  • Devices that do not meet the minimum specifications
  • Windows 11 'S Mode'.
(The 'S' mode is a special version of Windows 11.  Visit Switching out of S mode in Windows (microsoft.com) for details.)
  • Smartphones
  • Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora etc)
  • Any other version of software not listed in the BYOD Charter section of the Enrolment Handbook.
