Our school Peer Mediators are Year 11 students who are trained to respond in the best possible way when a friend turns to them with a concern and/or problem. Research at Kids Help Line suggests that while many young people share their problems with their parents, often they turn first to their peers and friends.
Peer Mediators participate in a Lifeline Community Care two-day Peer Skills Workshop facilitated by the Picabeen Community Centre at Mitchelton. The workshop trains students in support skills, communication and problem-solving skills and provides them with information about local agencies.
The peer mediators are supported by teacher Maria Hill, and play an active part in building on our positive and supportive school environment.
We thank Picabeen Community Centre for their support of this program.
