School Captains' Welcome

Captains.jpgHi everyone!

I hope you are all as excited as we are to start 2022 at Ferny Grove State High School! We'd also like to say a huge WELCOME to our new Year 7's! We realise how scary and unsettling it can be starting all over again at a new school (trust us, we've been there, done that). But rest assured knowing that there's so much to look forward to in the upcoming years.

As the School Captaincy Team for 2022, we'd like to introduce ourselves by telling you about our goals for the year ahead. Our focus for the year will be student involvement and school community, across all year levels. We encourage everyone to get involved with all the great programs our school has to offer. We will work tirelessly with staff and other student leaders to promote events and opportunities, so everyone can expand their skills and pursue their passions. We will also focus on sustainability and mental health. Sustainability has become more crucial than ever before, thus we plan to introduce recycling bins and projects such as a school-wide movement for Clean Up Australia Day.

While our school already has many support networks that students can reach out through, we would like to increase student and staff awareness of mental health. To achieve this, we will be promoting specific mental health days and hope to have guest speakers to inform students of its risks and how they can seek help for it. If you ever feel overwhelmed by life, please don't be afraid to reach out to a teacher, friend, year coordinator, deputy, guidance officer, or our wonderful chaplains.  We will be asking for everyone's support to see that these programs benefit current and future students alike.

Here at Ferny, we have an exceptional range of extra-curricular activities, clubs, and community organizations. These include the School Debating Team for all year levels, a wonderful Instrumental and Choral Music ProgramGerman Immersion, as well as charity group funded by Rotary called INTERACT. For students who accelerate with their schoolwork, the LEAF Program is also available to them. For exceptional sporting students, the FAST Program is also on offer. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can do at our school. Partaking in or volunteering for such programs is a rewarding and will help you make the most of your secondary schooling experience. Through these you can receive awards at the end of the year for your hard work and be in the running for a junior or senior leadership position.

We are so excited for all that 2022 has in store for Ferny Grove, and we hope you are too. If you ever find yourself having any questions or concerns, please know you are always welcome to ask and share them with us. If you want, we could even just have a chat. We're more than happy to listen and help you in any way we can – that's what we're here for! We look forward to seeing you guys around!

Your 2022 School Captains,

John, Chiara, Oscar, and Jasmine.
