The Languages Parent Support Group (LPSG) at Ferny Grove State High School is a vibrant group of parents who support the highly specialised language program. Students, teachers and tutors are passionate about languages at Ferny Grove State High. The school offers German, Indonesian as well as a German Immersion Program. The Languages Parent Support Group (LPSG) meets once or twice a term to discuss upcoming events. Parents support the program with a selection of fundraising activities, with the funds supporting the languages program in various ways. In 2013 the funds helped financing native speakers to tutor the students in small groups outside the classroom, giving them exposure to as many authentic language situations as possible. The funds also paid for an online vocab learning program fee for all language students as well as some new whiteboards for each classroom.
The parents are there to support the teachers with extracurricular activities such as the students’ trivia night, welcome breakfast for exchange students from Germany, cultural activities, introductory afternoons or end-of-year functions, to name a few. The LPSG communicates with the languages department throughout the year offering support. The committee is a small group of parents who are always looking for new parents with new ideas to join them.
