Junior Curriculum
Year 7, 8 and 9
The Food & Nutrition Technology subjects offered in years 7, 8 & 9 are semester long courses. These subject offerings provide student the opportunity to create designed solutions in the context of food & nutrition. Students use Design Thinking processes to create solutions to food problems, focusing on concepts of nutrition, preferred futures while developing their practical cookery skills.
Year 10
In year 10 we offer two year-long courses for students to follow different pathways into senior subjects and future career prospects.
Food & Nutrition Technology
Food & Nutrition Technology focus on concepts related to food science, sustainability, preferred futures and product development. Students use Design Thinking processes and the Food & Nutrition problem solving process to develop solutions to food related problems.
Hospitality
Year 10 Hospitality is an introduction to the Food & Beverage sector of the Hospitality Industry. Topics of study include the development of practical skills in the area of food and beverage production and service, workplace communication and teamwork, workplace health and safety and industry hygiene/food safety standards. Students have opportunity to work in the recently refurbished commercial grade senior kitchen.
Senior Curriculum
Food & Nutrition
Food & Nutrition is the study of food in the context of food science, nutrition and food technologies, considering overarching concepts of waste management, sustainability and food protection.
What will students learn?
In studying Food & Nutrition, students will learn about:
- Food science of vitamins, minerals and protein
- Food drivers and emerging trends
- Food science of carbohydrate and fat
- Food solution development for nutrition consumer markets
How will students be assessed?
Students will complete the following assessments:- Examination (20%)
- Project – folio (25%)
- Project – folio (30%)

Hospitality Practices
Hospitality Practices develops knowledge, understanding and skills about the hospitality industry and emphasises the food and beverage sector, which includes food and beverage production and service.
What will students learn?
- In studying Hospitality Practices, students will learn about:
- Navigating the hospitality industry
- Working effectively with others
- Hospitality in practice (weekly cooking with students to provide own ingredients)
How will students be assessed?
Students will complete the following assessment types:
- Project – actual event functions (both during and outside of school hours)
- Investigation
- Examination
