STEM education refers collectively to the embedding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines in the context of real world project-based learning.
Across Years 7 – 9 students are exposed to STEM units of work within the curriculum areas Science, Business & IT, Design (IDT), Food & Nutrition Technology, and Agricultural Practices classes. A common Ferny Grove State High School Design Thinking model is utilised to unpack real world problems and facilitate the development of 21st century skills such as problem-solving, critical analysis and creative thinking.

STEM at Ferny Grove State High School engages students in authentic learning contexts that challenges their thinking, building their individual capacity to thrive in the known and unknown of our increasingly global community. Students develop deep understanding through an inquiry based approach to learning where the student is in the centre of the learning journey. Students work collaboratively with teachers, peers and the wider community to solve real world design problems, utilising design thinking processes, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and elements of the Australian Curriculum – Technologies, Science and Maths.
